Subject:Encina Update (encinaupdate group) Date:Fri, 16 Jul 1999 16:10:44 -0700 ENCINA ALUMNI, This group stuff seems to be confusing some of you so I thought I'd take another stab at explaining how to subscribe to the encinaupdate mailing list based on the questions I've had from people so far. ENCINA UPDATE GROUP I appreciate those of you who've taken the time to subscribe to your class and encinaupdate groups. I think you'll find the class mailing lists a boon to class communication. Quite a few have signed up for the class lists so far. If you've joined, try sending an email to your classmates and get a discussion going. For those of you who haven't subscribed yet, here are some instructions to clarify the process. If you wish to receive the Encina Update in the future, please do one of the following: 1. send blank email to encinaupdate-subscribe@egroups.com DO NOT send blank email to harlan@rambus.com as numerous people have done. DO NOT send blank email to encina1973@egroups.com either. 2. go to www.encinahighschool.com , find the egroups form, enter your email address and click on the "join group" button. This will take you to the egroups website, where you can join the encinaupdate group. 3. if you get stuck, send me an email and ask me to subscribe you. I can add you to the encinaupdate group although I cannot register for you. I WILL USE THE ENCINAUPDATE GROUP TO DISTRIBUTE THIS WEEKLY ENCINA UPDATE STARTING NEXT WEEK. So if you wish to receive the Encina Update please follow these "simple" directions. EGROUP REGISTRATION If you subscribed by sending a blank email to egroups, please follow up by going to www.egroups.com and registering so that your name will show up on your class group. Otherwise, when people look at the membership directory for your group, all they will see is your email address and they won't know who you are. When you go to egroups.com, click the "Join for free" button, enter your email address and click on the continue button. egroups will send you an email containing your validation number. The purpose is to prevent someone else from pretending to be you, since they will not have access to the validation number. The next page will ask you for your validation number. Enter your validation number, name, zipcode and password and you are registered. CLASS MAILING LIST If you wish to join your class mailing list, go to your class directory, find the egroups form, enter your email address and click the "join group" button. The rest of the procedure is the same as joining the encinaupdate group as described above. WARNING You cannot send email to a mailing list unless you are a member! You must subscribe/join the group first. If you have problems over the weekend, please write me at harlanlau@yahoo.com , my home email address. Sorry for the inconvenience.
