Subject:Encina Update (email/forwarding/reunions/bios/multiple listings/found/missing/basketball/what's new/zelda) Date:Thu, 11 Mar 1999 09:43:23 -0800 ENCINA ALUMNI, Welcome to the new additions to the Encina Update distribution list. EMAIL ETIQUETTE Another reminder to include your full name and class year on email you send me. Although most of you are good about this, I continue to receive email from alumni which is unsigned, leaving me to decipher who it's from... FORWARDING If you are forwarding the Encina Updates to other alumni or staff, please encourage your forwardees to send me their email addresses so I can mail them directly. I have no objection to forwarding but I would like to add your forwardees to the alumni database. Alternatively, please let me know the names and class years of those you are forwarding to. This way I can add their names to the alumni database since I'll know there's a way to contact them. CLASS OF 1989 REUNION Janice Barnes 89 wrote: "The 1989 10 year class reunion will be held on August 28, 1999. At Howe Center/Park from 7:00 PM til 11:00PM. Invitations will be sent out in May, 1999. Confirmed" REUNIONS Heddy Crowder, the Encina community liason, wrote that she receives many calls about reunions from alumni. Not everyone who calls has email or internet access. She asks that reunion chairs write or call her. I think if you send Heddy your email address and a phone number so that classmates without email can contact you that would be a start. And if you could keep Heddy informed of your reunion date and location that would be even better. The classes which plan to have reunions this year are: 1964 1969 Alan Dankman (adankman@worldnet.att.net) 1974 Bob Grebitus (grebido@aol.com), Nancy Ziliotto (NANZILI@prodigy.net) 1979 Laura Graff Allred (pacwest@foothill.net), Great Reunions: info@greatreunions.com 1984 1989 Janice Barnes (jabarnes@dttus.com) 1994 Candy Mleczko (candym229@hotmail.com) If you have a sibling or friend without email from one of these years, please let them know about their class reunion! Please contact me if you know anyone on the reunion committee for the classes of 64 and 84. The latest information about each reunion will be posted on the class homepage by myself or the class webmaster. BIOS If your class is having a reunion this year please consider submitting your bio for publication on your class homepage using the bio form: http://www.encinahighschool.com/submit_bio.htm It's enjoyable to read about what your old classmates have been doing. For the class of 73's 25th reunion last year, almost everyone who attended the reunion (along with many who couldn't attend) submitted a bio so that we ended up with over 100 bios and class directory listings. Many classmates told me that reading the bios rekindled their interest in Encina and made them look forward to attending the reunion and seeing old friends again. And having read the bios in advance, there was plenty to talk about. The class directory allowed people to reestablish contact with old friends and get reacquainted with each other. The Encina website played a significant role in generating interest in the reunion and putting classmates in touch with each other. MULTIPLE LISTINGS If you were a junior grad and would like to be listed under two class years in the directory please let me know. For instance, if you were class of 73 but graduated early with the class of 72 you can be listed in both the 72 and 73 class directories. FOUND Jim Meredith 79 told Cathy Harlan 80 someone was looking for her sister Daphne Pechart 80. So Daphne is no longer missing. Judy Wilson wrote me about teacher Steve Johnson: Steve Johnson is the department chairperson for adaptive PE in the San Juan School District. He basically coordinates all (13) adaptive P.E. teachers at all of their schools. In addition he has his own caseload and does special diagnostic work for special education students who are multiply disabled. I have Steve's email address if you would like me to forward something to him. Erik Olson 79 wrote that Barry Wisdom 78 "is living in Stockton and working for a local paper in the area Manteca, I believe." Erik Olson also wrote that "Bebe McKenzie, teacher, was working at Mira Loma as a history teacher and has probably retired." Chris Kojima and Judy Wilson wrote the Bebe McKenzie is still substituting around the district as far as they know. ALUMNI SEARCH Brian Brown 84 wrote that "Missing" is misleading and that "Alumni Search" would be a more appropriate name for this section. Just the new listings this week: 1973 Craig Blake Sally Hurd Peggy Hutchinson Patty Russell BASKETBALL The NCAA tournament starts today and as a Stanford alumni, I'm hoping for another Final Four appearance this year. Go Stanford! WHAT'S NEW This week there was a influx of 79 and 89 alumni. This is really a spectacular video game and is even better than Super Mario 64, my previous favorite. Highly recommended... Have a good weekend!
