I was in Sacramento last weekend. Saturday I went to
SunSplash at Roseville Golfland with my wife's relatives.
After splashing around in the wavepool with my sons, who
weren't interested on the rides, my wife's nephew talked me
into going on the Stealth ride. How come there's no line for
this ride I said? Wheeew. Boy, that first drop is pretty
terrifying. So much for a starter ride. I ended up going
on all the rides with him but everything else was tame
after that first ride on Stealth, which they describe
as a 5 story halfpipe:

Sunday we went to the Jazz Jubilee and saw Avalon Swing play
at the Holiday Inn. Some of you know my wife's cousin Jan
is married to Avalon Swing guitarist Tom Phillips 65.
Shelley Burns 70 is the vocalist and Shelley's husband
plays trombone and banjo for Avalon Swing. They lost their
sax player to illness and Shelley's son Ryan Coughran filled
in on clarinet. Ryan had to leave early as he had an overlapping
gig with the Wasabi Stompers. Shelley's sister joined the
act to sing one song. I'm not sure which sister it was but
she was very good. And we couldn't have asked for better weather!


HOMECOMING 2001

ALUMNI CHALLENGE : THE MOVIE

*** NEW ***

Teacher Stephanie Woo had her students videotape the Alumni
Challenge and has been kind enough to put together a video
of the evening for those who were not able to attend in person.
The tape contains over an hour's worth of footage!

Stephanie Woo wrote:

tour, dinner, almost the "entire" basketball game, band, views
of the crowd, interviews with alumni/band members/basketball

BRAD FOULK 71

"Brad was diagnosed with MS about 10 years ago and has been
in a variety of care centers for about the past 5 years.
He is now completely bed ridden with limited motor skills on
his right side. His eye sight is poor and his memory as well
as his speech fail him to varying degrees. But he is alert
and welcomes visitors. His wife, Isa, visits him everyday
so if you visit in the late afternoon you may see her there."

"I finally got to visit Brad Foulk at Pine Ridge Convalescent Center.
Although not the bleach blond kid I knew from high school, the same
crystal blue eyes and huge smile are still there. He has an amazing
attitude and makes every effort to converse with you. I took
John McCoy with me. John and Brad grew up together on the same
street, dreaming about motorcycles and traveling the country on
two wheels. To my surprise, Brad remembered me and the times he
used to come over to my house to hang out. He even remembered the
time my Uncle Dan came over and Brad hid in my closet with his
girlfriend, Joy Pritchett. My mom worked nights and we weren’t
supposed to have boys in the house after she left.

When John asked Brad if he remembered him, he grinned really big
and said, “Of course I do”, and extended his hand to John. They
talked about motorcycles, girls, swimming in the pool in Brad’s
back yard, as if the last 30 years had melted away. He even told
John how good looking the nurses are that tend to him.

Visiting Brad takes a little patience because he tends to repeat
himself and you have to listen carefully to understand some of
his speech. Also, there are many things he doesn’t remember, so
you have to work at bringing up things until one hits home.
But the effort is rewarded by Brad’s sense of humor and good nature.
And he constantly flashes that smile at you the whole time you’re there!

I thought I was doing something for Brad by making the visit, but
I’m the one that ended up on the receiving end. I’m so glad I
finally made the trip.

P.S. If anyone is reluctant to visit Brad because of the typical
thoughts one gets about convalescent homes, I can tell you Brad
is in a clean, peaceful environment and it is obvious he is well
cared for. So do yourself a favor and make the trip if you can.

ROBERT IRVING 61

Occupation: Director of Golf The Rim Golf Club, Payson AZ

Bio: I attended and graduated from Sacramento State College in 1966.
Married in June of 1966. Had one daughter, Susan who now lives in Modesto,
CA. Worked until 1970 at The Del Rio CC in Modesto, and then moved to North
Shore CC in Chicago. In 1973 I became the head Porfessional at La Jolla CC
in California.
I was hired away to The Boulders Resort in Arizona as The Director of Golf
in 1982 and stayed until 1994 when I decided to give the Sr. Tour a try. In
1983 I married Toni Nicks and we were married until she passed away last
July after fighting cancer for 22 years. We followed the Senior Tour in a
motor home from 1994 through 1998. I played in 28 Senior tour events
including 8 major championships. In the summer of 1998 I had triple by-pass
surgery and am doing great! I would recommend everyone eat healthy starting
now! In the fall of 1998 I was hired for the position I am at now. By the
way I am engaged to be married to Frances Rogell who was a best friend of my
late wife.

Trivia: I have played with most of the golfing greats on the senior tour
except Palmer and Nicklaus and Irwin. I have played in two British Senior
Opens in Ireland.
I have now made four hole in ones, three in tournament play. I was the
leading all time money winner on the Senior Series Golf Tour 1995-1998.

Friends: Best Friends-Bill Greenly and Paul Sax
I haven't talked with them in some time, but I keep tabs on Paul through a
mutual friend.

Hobbies: Golf, of course; skiing, hiking, cycling.

Kids: Susan is now 34, Toni's children (Marissa 29, Randy 33, Sean 32)
Susan Just got her teaching credential and is teaching 2nd grade in Modesto.
Marissa is living in Phoenix working in property management.
Randy is in Visalia and Sean is Married and in Hanford.

SUE CORBETT 62

Occupation: Retired State Employee

Bio: Since graduation I have mostly been working, working, working--until
last year when I retired after 35 years with the State, 22 of which were at
the Legislature. Presently working two days a week as a retired annuitant
with the Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs. Went to ARC for two years
after Encina, but married, had a child, was widowed and raised my son as a
single parent, so didn't complete a degree until about 10 years ago. Stayed
single for many years but have recently partnered and am very happy.

Trivia: I have had a variety of community interests, including politics
(Democrat), serving as a literacy tutor, a mentor and a 12-step sponsor.
Presently responsible for a newsletter for a 300-member women's
organization.

Friends: Have lost contact with just about everyone but would love to hear
from former classmates.

Hobbies: As far as hobbies/interests, I am an avid reader, enjoy anything
outdoors, especially hiking, travel of course, love music and theater, have
played the guitar and the harp, the occasional arts/craft project,
gardening, reading and discussion groups, dining out, exercise...well, I
could go on and on. I am always interested in new experiences and want to
do it all before I check out.

Kids: I have one son (Scott 33) and one grandchild, a one-year old named
Zora Irene. They live in Philadelphia. My dauther-in-law teaches at Penn,
which is where my son graduated from. I wish they lived closer but it gives
me an opportunity to travel.

Grade_school: As I moved to Sacto from Auburn, only attended Dyer Kelly for
eighth grade.

Grade_school_friends: From Dyer Kelly I especially remember Shelly Ready,
Judy Larue, Frances Falk, Judy Casho, Bonnie Van Buskirk, Greg Phelps, Dick
Parrett....

Memorable_teachers: Most memorable teachers were Mr. Figenshu who made
biology interesting, Mr. Lee who had a sense of humor, Mr. Psiahas who
taught French, Mr. Pattitucci-Art.

Favorite_memory: As for school memories, just the general excitement of
being at a new school, meeting new people. Also being involved with a group

who petitioned for the girls to be able to wear slacks and shorter skirts.
It's hard to believe we couldn't wear pants to school.

Story: There are many interesting stories but hey, I might have to face
these folks someday so I'll pass on sharing them.


GAIL MABBUTT 66

Occupation: Information Technology Project Specialist

Bio: For the last 35 years I have been on a journey to discover what I want
to be when I grow up. There have been many twists and turns along this
journey, both personal and professional. I have worked as a college
instructor, union organizer, management labor negotiator, IT analyst and
trainer. I am now making plans to embark with my spouse on the next leg of
the journey, moving to Washington state to become a lavender grower and
e-business entrepneur. This will happen in about 3 years after, we
"graduate" from our careers with the State of California .... we're too
young to retire!

Friends: Nancy Ricker (Hoffman), who I hope to reconnect with when I move to
the Northwest. Penny Bishop, who has tried to maintain contact with me but
timing was often bad. Janet Giske,Joan Hacken,Natalie Tamburri, Marcia &
Lauren Friedman -- hope you are at the reunion.

Hobbies: Quilting, flyfishing and gardening.

Kids: In the spirit of "it takes a village to raise a child", I have been
lucky to be Auntie Gail to three delightful girls ... my best friend's
daughter and my 2 nieces, Whitney and McKenna.

PEGGY BARRETT 72

Occupation: Occupational Therapist

Bio: Hiding out in the Northwest for the past 25 years was rocky, trying to
find a career to support myself and my creativity took me to University of
Puget Sound and another bachelor degree in Occupational Therapy. Northwest
living can be wonderful experiencing the great outdoors. I also dabbled in
community theatre there keeping my appetite wet for acting. Southern CA
beckoned me to pursue my dream to become a professional actor, in 1997 I ate
my words that I would never move to LA and planted myself and cats in an
apt. in Santa Monica 4 blocks from the beach. I cannot hide from myself any
longer and I am taking a comedy improv class at CBS Studios in Studio City.
I am a woman on the verge of finding myself and the saga continues.

Trivia: I lived in a convent in Cottonwood, Idaho for a year almost becoming
a nun but running away in the nick of time. I couldn't follow the rules.

I've lost touch with just about everyone from the class of '72

JENNIFER BARRETT 91

Occupation: Mommy and a Homemaker

Bio: Since I left 3/4 of the way through my Junior year, I graduated from
Oroville High School. Andy Cloutier ('90 and Matt's twin) were still
together and married in August 1993. The same day of our wedding, we began
our drive to San Antonio, TX., for Andy to report back to basic training in
the Army before they shipped us off to Colorado. Long story short, we
separated for a while, and I moved to Santa Barbara to live with some
friends. I did return to Colorado to try and work things out,
unsuccessfully. I do however want to make something very clear - Andy was
and is a very loving and caring person who I know I hurt very deeply. I
have made some very big mistakes in life, but all I can do is learn from
them. To Andy and his family and friends, again I am truly sorry for
everything. But on to bigger and better things. Since that time, I moved
back to Sac. and held various administrative positions. I also rededicated
my life to Christ and have been so blessed by Him!
I did remarry, my Best Friend Matt and have been very happy for the past 3
years.

Trivia: I guess I'm pretty boring when it comes to trivia. I did continue
to sing at several public events, including a Sacramento Knights game at
Arco Arena (the National Anthem). That was such a rush.

Friends: There were so many, I can only name a few: Stacy Cole (from Jr.
High), Esther King, Bob Hummel (who I miss terribly since my divorce), Chris
Cheng - where are you?, Gena Bradbury, Gina Baker, Chris Leiser, Jen
Jeffords, Mina Hamilton, Amy Schnieder, Deanna Narvaez(90), Shannon Staiger,
Liz Glaholt(89) and Michelle Dubonnet(89)

Hobbies: Playing with my girls (they are the light of our lives), having
lunch with other friends/moms, and when it strikes me (usually the night
before a holiday or event) crafts for gifts.

Kids: Kaitlyn is two and just the spitting image of her father. She's also
a daddy's girl. She has just recently become this "big kid" with the way
she acts and the things that she says. It cracks me up all day! Olivia is
only 3 and half months and is definately my daughter - Yeah, this one looks
like me! She is such a smiler and is "talking" more and more each day. The
girls are 1 week shy of two years apart which makes for a very busy month of
February.

Junior_high_friends: There were so many, I do remember Jon Meckfessel and
Gina Baker though.

Memorable_teachers: Mr. McElroy "Mac" - He helped fight to keep me at Encina
with a district transfer every year I was there for my desire to be in the
arts. He was always encouraging and supportive.

Favorite_memory: The rally's and being on JV Cheer sophomore year.

Story: I would really love to hear from some of you and hope I can attend
the reunion.


ANGELINA GARAY 92

Occupation: small business owner/mommy

Bio: I have been on the move since graduation. I moved to philadelphia for a
while(jeff),then back to cali,then on to detroit(jeff).I moved to phoenix,az
on a whim(and a lot of encouragement from melinda).While i was barhopping
and having a good time,i met my husband.(no,not that marine guy). 6 months
later we were married and moved to tucson.we had 1 daughter and started a
small business(getting bigger).All i can say is, that i can't complain.i'm
livin the good life.

Trivia: i have travelled a lot and met a lot of INTERESTING people.In
detroit i worked at a local hotel. i met every sports/celebrity person you
can imagine.That was fun.

Friends: The friends i hung out with in high school were all different
classes.My 92' buddies, I have mostly lost contact with.My cousin Rachel is
still my best bud.We both live in arizona.I was in contact with Lynda
Scanlon a few yrs back, and will be again thanks to this site.All my KAOS
buddies have been in my thoughts but i have never been in contact with
them.Melinda, are you out there?Also like to say hi to my buds jackie and
teresa.and everyone....

Hobbies: i enjoy spending time with my family,driving around in my k5
blazer,(since the hubby totalled my little red amigo 3 weeks ago.)boo hoo

Kids: My daughter Alexis(lexi)is 3 yrs old. She is the light of my life.She
has light, brown,curly hair and big brown eyes.She is the smartest kid i
have ever met and challenges me every day with her new knowledge.hee hee.She
is nicknamed my mini me(because of her eyes.)She is a little diva.My step
daughter(rian) is just as beautiful, and is 9yrs old.We are also best

Favorite_memory: my fave memory would be leaving campus for mcdonalds.We got
caught by glen and gave him our hall pass(to mcdonalds)signed by mr b.That
was funny cuz he let us go. we were all close cuz of all the time spent in
onsite together.Fave memory of school..leaving campus..hmmm?

Story: I have alot of interesting stories about a lot of interesting
classmates.MOst of them are illegal.If i told you i'd have to kill you.:)

CHRISTI FLEMING 94

Occupation: Medical Assistant

Bio: What have I been doing since graduation??? Many adventures, too little
space to tell them in. To sum up the basic details, I moved to Santa Rosa
with my one and only true love, Dustin, after graduating. We lived together
for a long while before he tricked me, I mean convinced me to get married.
I graduated with a degree in medical assisting June 2000 and just received
my certification as a specialized clinical and administrative medical
assistant.

Trivia: Being as good as I always have been.

Friends: Shanell and I are still best freinds (she was a bridesmaid in my
wedding) and we still talk, though not as often as I'd like since we both
are soooooooo busy!! Good freinds were Karina Galindo and Aileen Peligrino.
But I have lost contact with them

Hobbies: Now I love my days off!!!! (It's so nice to FINALLY have days
off!!!) I like to go for picnics at Bodega Bay, and walk around Spring
Lake, go watch a Giants game and take my nephews to the movies!!!!

ELAINE FORMICA 94

Occupation: Veterinary Technician

Bio: Well right after High School I moved down to the Bay Area (near
Berkely) losing contact with everyone. Except for Nat.(Scharp) we still keep
in touch. I have been an R.V.T. for 3 years now and love it. I never thought
I would be in the Veterinary field but it is definately for me. I am single
at this time. No big romances in my life guess i'll just have to be patient.
Other than that i've just been having a good time enjoying life.

Friends: Natalie Scharp which we still keep intouch but she lives in
Arkansas so we only see each other about once a year. Melissa Elkins,
Audreanna Jarwin, Kary Riddle, Chris Ballance,Christy Jiminez, Alberto
Castro & Michelle Strasburg.

Hobbies: Well I don't think I would call it a hobby but I love anything to
do with classic mustangs. I Have two. 1965 Conv. Mustang and a 1966 Coupe.
Both beautiful cars.

Kids: Well I need a boyfriend first!!!

KENNETH SCHNAIDT 61

Kenneth James Schnaidt
Sacramento Bee, May 2001
Born February 13, 1943 in Sacramento, CA. Ken lost his battle with heart
disease and died suddenly May 19, 2001 in Glendora,CA. At his side were
Rosemary Schnaidt, his loving partner of 16 years and dear friends, Ed &
Joyce. Ken is survived by his beloved children, son Jim Schnaidt and wife
Randy of Utah, daughter Brenda Garcia and husband Fred of Texas, and son
Karl Schnaidt of Sacramneto, with all of whom he shared a very special
relationship. He also leaves his stepson, Mark Seagren and wife Donna of
Florida. Loving Grandfather to three grandsons, Nathan, Dustin (Dusty) and
Joshua and four granddaughters, Brittany, Melissa, Danielle and Michelle. He
was preceded in death by his mother, Helen. Also survived by father, Alvin
Schnaidt, sister Carol Klein and husband John of Sacramento and dear sister
Diane Gibson and hsuband Dave of Olympia. Uncle to Rev. Darren Klein, Bonnie
Bassett, Greg Klein, Amy Berkebile and David Gilbson, as well as their
spouses and children. Also survived by his aunt, Frances Hansen and his
uncle, Fred Miller, both of Sacramento. Ken was employed at Pacific Bell for
many years and later established his own company, Eagle Communications. He
shared his love of fishing, traveling, and "bussing" with Rosemary and Karl.
Ken had a true "zest for life" and a talent for making many friends along
his life's journeys. Kenny will be missed dearly by his friends and family.
All family and friends are invited to a celebration of Ken's life at a
memorial service to be held in his boyhood church, Trinity United Methodist
Church, 2245 Highridge Drive, Sacramento, Sunday, May 27, 2001 at 3 PM.
Gifts in Ken's memory may be given to: American Heart Association, 2007 O
Street, Sacramento, CA. Designate "in memory of Ken Schnaidt".
