Subject: [Encina Update] Alumni float for homecoming parade

Hi,

Those of you attending the Encina Homecoming 2000 party may
remember that we'll have alumni cars in the homecoming parade
during the halftime of the varsity game at El Camino HS.

Last year, Paul Stewart 76 helped decorate Kelly Horine 88's car
for the parade.

This year, Paul Stewart 76 and his friends have volunteered to
build an alumni float for this year's parade. We now have a
flatbed trailer thanks to Lisa Lowe Roland 79. Thanks Lisa!

Now Paul needs some help. Please read the following message
from Paul and see if you can help make this the best (and first)
Encina alumni float. This is an ideal opportunity for some of
you more flamboyant alumni to get out there and strut your stuff.

ALUMNI FLOAT:

Message from Paul Stewart '76 in charge of the alumni float:

COSTUMES FROM THE 1970S WANTED!

We need people to play some of the characters that will be in the car, on
the float or walking around the float waving.   And we need costumes.

The theme of this float will be the 1970s since that's when my friends and I
who are working on it graduated.   (Gary Kennedy and Jim Bain '78.  Bob
Kennedy and John Bain '74 and Don Hagy '76.)

However, we encourge help from alumni of all decades.  We need younger
people to dress up as people like Charlie's Angels.

We are going to turn the float into a mini-parade with swarming characters
from the corny polyester '70s.  You can't get more corny or '70s than the
Village people.  Which happens to have an Indian which can be the Encina
Apache (which Gary Kennedy will play since it was his idea.)

Village people, fat polyester Elvis, any disco costume, a Nixon mask (or
someone who can be made up to look like him and walk around in a bad suit
giving the peace sign.)  And an Uncle Sam to celebrate the bicentenial that
was than so ubiquitous.

We have found a flat bed trailer thanks to Lisa (Lowe) Roland '79.
What we need now is a vehicle to pull it.  A convertible from the '70s would
be perfect.  We want to put as much polyester in the back seat as we can.
Did anyone save their leisure suits so they can go as Steve Austin, (Six
million dollar man married to Farah.)

The float will be built on Saturday and Sunday October 14 and 15.  We don't
need many more helpers for the basic building of it.  But if you have
special skills in construction, artwork or costuming/make up please contact
us.

It would be great if some of the simple costumes like the Village People
would come from only a few sources to save running around.    A quick
internet check revealed the Village People consist of six people:  Indian,
cop, cowboy, G.I. , biker, construction worker.
